Dec 1994 - Sep 1997 Lead Information Systems Administrator, Defense Finance and Accounting Service-Honolulu
Managed a highly complex NetWare-based local area network with 17 file servers, one application server, over 500 users from all four major branches of the military, 70 network printers, a 56-drive CD-ROM server, and a 16-line chatterbox for the Defense Finance & Accounting Service (DFAS) Operating Location (OpLoc) on Ford Island.
Responsible for management of all aspects of the network architecture. Maintained wide-area connectivity between the users and 17 widely dispersed IBM, Tandem, and Unisys mainframes throughout the mainland running 48 different applications.
Maintained integrity of the OpLoc's firewall and encryption system. Installed and maintained all hardware as well as all network, system, and application software. Developed database applications.
Responsible for user training and support. Information Security Officer and Telephone Control Officer for the OpLoc. Established OpLoc standards for briefing formats, presentations, and training. Manage the Video Teleconferencing Center.
Installed over a dozen NetWare 3.12 and 4.1 systems.
 
Mar 1993 - Dec 1994 HQ PACAF Financial Management LAN Administrator, TekSystems, Inc.
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Headquarters, Pacific Air Forces, Comptroller Systems Division, Local area network (LAN). Provided field support to all financial management systems in the Western Pacific (WestPac) theater. Provided design, installation and administration of the LAN and tailored custom menu systems to provide the users with network access and storage.
Developed user training on all microcomputer software in use, which included MS-DOS, WordPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3, Harvard Graphics, Windows, Microsoft Office suite, Higgins group productivity software, FoxPro for Windows, dBASE IV, PC-Tools, Perform Pro forms management software, Comptroller Information Transfer System (CITS), Paper View, Mosaic, PEP/TCP (an application providing connectivity to the Defense Data Network) and all other applications the users had available for their use.
Did repairs and preventive maintenance on all personal computers, the file server and its components, including all network cabling.
Assisted all financial management field LAN administrators in their daily job, including all troubleshooting of their systems. Developed a Disaster Recovery Plan that all WestPac Financial Management (FM) personnel implemented. Advised all WestPac FM administrators on system upgrades, including suggested sources and how to accomplish the documentation required to justify the effort. Assisted all WestPac FMs, Travel Administrators in their Integrated Accounting Travel Systems (IATS) network with upgrades and daily maintenance.
Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the DFAS Pacific Program Management Office. Provided all administrative services, which included user training, routine maintenance and monitoring, routine backups, and all system upgrades. Performed preventive maintenance on all personal computers, file servers and their components, and network cabling.
